Dr. Seuss Week was a blast in Pre-K

Even though our Dr. Seuss week was a little interrupted this year, with a snow day and a sick day for me, we still had a blast in Pre-K celebrating the author/illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel. The kids really enjoyed wearing their hats to school to celebrate “Cat in the Hat”.  We had a good time practicing rhyming words, silly, nonsense words and real words.  That’s a great game to play at home too.  Give your child a word and ask them to rhyme it with a real or silly word.

On Tuesday we read “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” and did lots of fun activites with red and blue.  First we sorted ourselves to see which color had the most and which one had the fewest friends.  Then we did some patterning with red and blue squares and praticed adding by counting how many red fish and how many blue fish we had.

Wednesday was our first snow day of the year, so we all stayed home and played in the snow!!

On Thurday, is was crazy sock day and we read the book “Fox in Socks” which is a tongue twister book.  The kids loved the idea of tongue twisters!  Maybe you could teach one to them at home (How much wood could a woodchuck chuck…). 🙂  The kids wore crazy socks to school this day and we did some fun foot activities.  First, we traced our feet and colored our socks they way they looked.  Next, we measure how long our foot was with cubes and then we wanted to know how many cubes would it take to fill up our socks.  Ms. Julie used her sock at circle and we made some predictions about how many teddy bears it would take to fill her sock up!  Nick made the best estimate.  Way to go!!  Give your child some estimating activities at home (how many legos fit in your glove, how many marshmallows does it take to cover your book, you get the idea).

On Friday, Ms. Julie missed out on one of her favorite days, Pajama Day, because of her daughter being sick, but she heard that a great day was had by all in their pj’s!
