A Busy November

The preschoolers have been busy this month. They have been enjoying our remodeled classroom and all the new hands on activities. We have also had another interesting visit from the Cincinnati Zoo, where the children were introduced to an owl and a lizard. We ended the month of November discussing Native Americans and the first Thanksgiving. The children enjoyed beading, playing in the tee pee and dressing like Native Americans. Happy Thanksgiving to all! ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

It’s Pumpkin Time Again

The preschoolers are enjoying the Fall season by sorting shape leaves, raking leaves and cleaning pumpkins in the classroom. They are also getting into the Halloween spirit with stories, art activities and playing the spider web game during small and large group time. The children received a visit from Miss Christa of the Cincinnati Zoo. The preschoolers got a close up look at a python and armadillo. We also observed the ladybug larvae that arrived in the classroom last week.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Creative Tots’ Preschoolers say, ” Happy Birthday Dr.Seuss!”

Language Arts

The preschoolers celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday in many ways. We enjoyed reading many of his stories and making Dr. Seuss art. We charted our likes and dislikes on our “Would you like green eggs?” chart, (I’m surprised that so many of the children would like green eggs!) The preschoolers also enjoyed identifying letters of the alphabet during our green eggs game.

Science: Oo is for Octopus

What color is the blood of an octopus? The preschoolers know the answer to that question and many more. The children had fun discovering octopus facts and making some awesome octopus crafts.

Center Time

Pizza anyone? The pizza center was a popular pace in the classroom these past two weeks. The preschoolers took on the roles of cooks, waiters, cashiers, and customers at the Creative Tots Pizza Place. Yum!

Special Activies

We had a great time singing and playing along with Ms. Joanie during music class. We also had a visit from the Cincinnati Zoo, where the preschoolers got a up close look at the constrictor snake and a baby crocodile. They experimented with a number of items to discover what attracts to the magnet and what does not. We have also been having fun with mittens. The children have been using their fine motor skills by hanging mittens on a clothesline. They have also been matching the mitten letters, singing songs, and reading stories about mittens. The mitten theme was also integrated into our art and math activities this past week. Finally, the Cincinnati Zoo stopped by our classroom for a visit. The preschoolers had the opportunity to see close up a armadillo and a blue tongue skink

Ll is for Leaves and Ladybugs

This week the preschoolers have been exploring leaves by sorting, graphing colors, making rubbings and using them in art activities. The class has also been using their observation skills by watching our ladybug larvae. In the next weeks we hope to see the larvae go through the pupa stage and become adult ladybugs. The children continued using their powers of observation during a visit from the Cincinnati Zoo. The preschoolers enjoyed learning about hedgehogs and spotted turtles.
