Parents’ Night Out Was A Huge Success!

Parents’ Night Out was a HUGE success on Friday.  We had an excellent group of Tots come join us for dinner, games, painting and more.  The night was non stop fun through and through.  Our Tots started the evening playing on the indoor slide and painting pictures in the Preschool Room until dinner.  After dinner we all moved to the Toddler Room for a few dinosaur games before the fun migrated into the gym where we played with bouncy balls, completed a few rounds of Duck, Duck, Goose and learned a new game called Bullfrog.  The evening ended with more time on the indoor slide and a few good books.

What a great way to spend a Friday evening!  It was a fun night for a great cause as all the proceeds were donated to the March of Dimes.  Thank you families and our wonderful Tots for this fabulous adventure!

We currently have one more night scheduled to get your Tot in for Parents’ Night Out!  On Friday, April 20th from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. we will be having a Mother’s Day theme to our Parent’s Night Out.  Your child will come in to make a super secret fun present for Mom and/or Grandma while you get to relax at home or get a night out on the town.  If you are interested in more information, please email Ms Jaime at creativetotsmissjaime@gmail.com

Thanks again!  I hope everyone is getting a great start to their Spring Break!  🙂

February Artist of the Month – Georgia O’Keeffe

This month’s In-class Art Enrichment welcomes the Spring with the colorful flowers of artist Georgia O’Keeffe.

“The artistic brilliance of Georgia O’Keeffe revolutionized modern art in both her time and in the present.  With her paintings she vividly portrayed the power and emotion of objects of nature.  This was first seen in her charcoal drawings of silhouetted bud-like forms exhibited in 1916 that brought her fame.  During the 1920s , she explored this theme in her magnified paintings of flowers which to this day enchant people amorously, although her purpose was to convey that nature in all its beauty was as powerful as the widespread industrialization of the period.

After spending a summer in New Mexico, Georgia O’Keeffe, enthralled by the barren landscape and expansive skies of the desert, would explore the subject of animal bones in her paintings of the 1930s and 1940s.  Just as with the flowers, she painted the bones magnified and captured the stillness and remoteness of them, while at the same time expressing a sense of beauty that lies within the desert.”

Take a look at the work of Georgia O’Keeffe below.  You can also click here to visit the official website for Georgia O’Keeffe and discover the beauty in nature as Georgia saw it.

Our Art Tots learned about Georgia O’Keeffe and her ability to look at the beauty of small objects in everyday live and make them into large portraits of beauty.  Pre-K Art Tots created larger than life flowers through scissors, paper and glue emphasizing the beauty in enlarging the detail.  Preschool and Early 3 Art Tots used paint and watercolor dobbers to manipulate the surface of their flower petals before cutting and assembling them together.  Our Toddler Art Tots were true artists as they used tissue paper shapes on the paper, painting water over them and letting the powdered pigment loose onto their paper.  What amazing results!

Art Tots learned this month that all it takes is a walk outside on a nice day with paper and crayons in hand to find the perfect subject matter to draw, paint and create.  We developed our spacial awareness of the page by being sure that our artwork was able to touch all four sides of the page.

Don’t forget our All School Art Show and March of Dimes Fundraiser is on Wednesday, March 14th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Mark your calendars for this unforgettable event and view all the fabulous work I have been blogging about!  🙂  For Details about the fundraiser click here.
