Odds and Ends with our Pre-K Friends

We have began the journey of reading. We’ve started learning sight words and will continue to add new words each week. We have been enjoying sight word art, word hunts, and rainbow writing! We have also been including important math concepts such as graphing, making sets and adding. We’ve had many special visitors as well! 🙂 Take a look at what we’ve been up to!

Election Day in Pre-K

We had lots of fun learning about Election Day in the Pre-K room on Tuesday!  We learned that in the United States of America, if you are 18 years old and registered to vote, you get to go to a polling place and cast a ballot!  We learned that voting is private and you don’t have to tell who (or in our case, what) you are voting for!  We learned that the person/thing with the most votes wins!

We decide to give voting a try.  We voted on what we should have for snack, Ritz Crackers or Wheat Thins.  We had a private polling place set up in the classroom, where the students cast their ballots and then placed them in a ballot box.  We tallied (we’ve been talking about tally marks and how the fifth mark is the “silly” line that goes through the other 4 marks and we know it makes 5 )the votes to see which cracker was the winner!

The winner was…..

Wheat Thins, by a land slide! 🙂

We also learned that the American Flag has 13 strips(7 red and 6 white, representing the 13 original colonies), and 50 stars (one for each state). We started off our day by saying the Pledge of Alligiance and listening to the Star Spangled Banner.  The kids enjoyed making their own flags by patterning red and white stripes and then adding their blue stars in the top left corner!
